COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT

If you would like to commission a picture, be it an animal, person or something else, please email me at info@janeblairart.co.uk in the first instance with your requirements.

I will draw the subject as it is in your photo and will need you to send me clear photographs in high resolution.

When choosing a good photograph, it is also important to consider the lighting as well as resolution.  Harsh light or shadow will be difficult to work from and affect the quality of your portrait.  I understand it can be really frustrating to hear that I can't work from the photographs provided but I want every portrait to be as good as it can be.  Here's my blog post that gives some tips and advice on getting a good photograph for a portrait.

If you have photos and are not sure whether they are suitable, I'm happy for you to send them over and I'll check them for you. Please send multiple photographs if you have them as it gives me a better feel for the subject.

When the portrait is complete I will take a photograph and email it to you for approval.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When and how do I need to pay?

Payment can be made via PayPal or BACS transfer.  Payment is due once the picture is complete. I'll email a photo of the picture for approval so you can be sure you're happy with it before paying.

How will my picture be shipped?

Once payment has cleared, for UK addresses, I will dispatch mini portraits via First Class Royal Mail. For all other sized portraits, shipping will be by Royal Mail Special Delivery which is guaranteed by 1pm the next day.  The parcel will need to be signed for, so if you would like me to send the picture to arrive on a specific day, I'm happy to arrange it.  For customers outside of the UK, please contact me for postage rates.

What colour mount can I have?

I use a white mount by default but you can choose any colour you'd like.  If you would like a different colour, please let me know your requirements at the earliest stage as I might have to order your chosen mount.

What size pictures are available?

The most common sizes are in the table above. If you require something else, I can provide you with a bespoke quotation.  Please note, the sizes listed relate to the outside edges of the mount, i.e. frame size.

Can I get a digital file of my picture?

I can provide you with a high-resolution digital image of your portrait at a cost of £25.  This has been useful for some customers who have wanted to order giftware from other retailers, featuring the artwork.

How long will it take to produce my picture?

I usually have a waiting list so I may not be able to start your picture straight away.  If you are commissioning the picture as a gift and have a deadline, please contact me and I will try to accommodate where I can.  Please also note, due to the amount of detail I include, each picture does take quite a while.

Will you include my picture on social media and on your website?

Most people are happy for me to do so but I always check first as I understand that not everyone wants their picture shared online.  Of course, if sharing is ok and the picture is a gift, I will wait until after the unveiling!
